Professor Mohan Menon is an M.Sc. (Life Sciences), M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Education (Educational Technology); he was conferred D. Litt. (Honoris Causa) in 2009 by the Open University of Sri Lanka for his long and comprehensive contributions to education in Commonwealth countries. He has held several important positions globally during his over forty years of academic and administrative career including that of Chief and Director of the UNESCO-UNRWA Education Programme for Palestine Refugees, Amman, Jordan; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Wawasan Open University, Penang, Malaysia; Education Specialist & Team Leader at the Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada; Chairman, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), India; Planning Officer/Reader & Professor/Director, Education at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), India At present, he is the Honorary Chairperson of DISHA Global Trust, Kochi, India actively involved in facilitating open, flexible and digital learning for societal and human advancement leading to sustainable development; and on the Board of International Council for Education and Teaching (ICET).
Prof. Menon has consulted extensively for international agencies such as UNESCO, UNDP, World Bank, DANIDA, UNICEF, COL, IDRC and DFID in addition to providing expert professional advice to national institutions and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Prof. Menon’s teaching, research and development expertise and published work has been mainly in the areas of science education, instructional design, open distance learning, open educational resources, and digital learning. He has over 60 publications including research/conceptual articles, books & monographs, training & assessment tools, and instructional materials. Prof Menon participated and delivered keynotes and plenary presentations in a number of international conferences and seminars. He is an internationally accepted researcher and trainer in areas such as instructional design, open educational resources and digital learning.
